Thinking through making 1

I don’t know how other people work when they have a more ‘serious’ project to do- but for me I ‘think’ about the idea and what I want to represent through the process of making. Generally I do this by selecting an image which is related to the theme I’m working on and make plates, often I only take a single print from each as it’s about the mark I’m making.

I know it won’t  be the image I intend to use as the image for the final piece, but it is good enough to be going on with for use on small steel ( ie cheap) plates while I decide more clearly what the correct image I want to use might be. I think this process driven method of working is clearly seen by the next plates I’m showing here.

I started out with monoprints as usual. there is something in making the work that enables me to work out what aspect of the subject matters to me. What I respond to in the monoprints which are essentially sketch book pieces.
