Adding colour 1
Yes I have added colour- but so little of it that it's hardly worth mentioning. And it didn't work very well in that the blue bled when I printed it. However, I've decided that I'm going to post the mistakes. I've said it before- people talk about artists 'work', and sometimes it means the beautiful final piece that is up on a wall, but MOST of the time it is work as a verb- lots of experiments and stuff that isn't quite the way you had hoped. Stuff that needs to be worked at and improved.

Playing with deep etch.
It was easy to get a deep etch when I masked the plate with tape. But getting a more fluid mark has its challenges, it takes time and patience ( and I'm not great at patience), so this is the plate I ended up with, which is not as I intended but is quite interesting. Again this is printed on good quality etching paper.

The original experiement
I'll be honest, I can't remember if I've posted an image of a print from this plate before, but if I have, this is still slightly different. When I first make a plate I test it on cartridge paper, before I ever other to print it on decent paper, but this one is printed on really good quality etching paper, and it picks up the plates marks differently.
The print above is what got me started on the most recent work, and I realised from this that I wanted to spend some time making prints which were very deeply etched, and which have lots of texture. It might sound simple, but it's harder than it seems to get the sort of marks that you really want.

Degree Show
Today I’m marking having submitted all the work for the
completion of my degree by posting photos of my forthcoming degree show as I’ve
now put up the work. Not the best images, and anyway it’s not the same as
seeing the work, so if you get a chance go along and take a look. There’s some
amazing work on show from the Fine Art students. The degree show starts on 13th
June with the private view on 12th.

variations on a theme 15
It's quite hard to see the etch on this plate, a poor photograph. But it is something where there is a distinct shape within the rectangle, and it is deep and produces an interesting print when viewed up close.
