Solar etching, Fistral
This is a solar etching made from an old plate found during a recent clear up. It made me realsie that my etching has moved on so much since I made this several years ago.
It is inspired by a photograph, taken on holiday in Cornwall, to which I have returned several times
but I think it works better as a painting

Reworked 1
So, when I looked at the prints I'd made, I decided that they might benefit from a bit more time in the acid. Mistake!
What happened next was
totally unexpected. The plate started bubbling in a totally uncontrolled way-
etching the open area so quickly that the plates were utterly transformed (and
not all in a good way)
The circles that are
visible on the areas which were already etched are he bubbles that formed 9n
the acid!

Printing by numbers
I've made 7 plates in total from the falling bands, and they are square, and initially I thought about printing them 4 together like this. And then I started to ponder the maths.
Given that each plate can be used in 4 places on the grid, with any of 6 other plates each 4 ways round, and they can be in different positions on the grid- how many possible combinations are there- or more to the point- what was the chance of me arriving at this combination. I know the number's huge- but I don't know how huge. I think my brain might explode working it out.

Colouring the plates 1
This isn't the best photograph of the real colour.
You might have realised by now, that left to my own preferences- ie when the image is something I'm playing with, though not when the subject dictates otherwise, I like bright happy colours. So I thought kit was time to have a gfo with something more staid and grownup. I printed this is a beautifully subtle inky navy and a pale grey blue- both colours heavily based on my favorite Prussian blue of course, but not in your face as I generally chose to print them.
